LX200 Classic Communications

To build a new hand controller for the LX200 Classic, we needed to completely understand the communications protocol, byte-by-byte, so some test fixtures were created and data captured. Then the CPU side of the conversations was mocked so that each command could be isolated, and its parameters could be varied to see what their purpose was. This research is being documented in a much larger PDF document, linked below. It may allow someone to build their own handset, emulate the handset controls in PC software, or just satisfy some curiosity. Warning: Obviously, tampering with the telescope and handset hardware can potentially damage your telescope, so don't attempt unless you are willing to accept that risk. The document is a work in progress, and no warranties as to its accuracy or anything else, is express or implied.
